Random News & Views Roundup

Today's updates on the Israel/Lebanon war can be found here.

- Sometimes, the so-called 'progressive' community is actually regressive. That's a truly sad state of affairs. Booman Tribune where I was once a frontpager is now, as Stephen Colbert would say: Dead to me.

- The Indian Government is reportedly blocking blogspot blogs as well as other blog sites, according to Boing Boing. It may be a mistake, but no one's sure yet.

- An analysis of G8 Summit body language.

- More bad poll numbers for Bush:

A recent survey showed that 73% of Americans support basic due process rights for terror suspects,

The poll found that on a bipartisan basis, pluralities of Americans believed that individuals suspected of involvement in terror plots should be guaranteed a set of due process protections such as requesting and receiving a hearing; notification of their home government and families of their capture and location; monitoring of their treatment by the Red Cross or another international organization; and freedom from torture.

The poll also found that a clear majority of Americans, 57%, were against the Bush administration's practice of extraordinary rendition.

Only 57%? That one's interesting. I guess the reality of torture flights might hit home one day if some who support the practice suddenly find their loved ones have disappeared too. That seems to be what it takes for some to actually think humanely.

- Israel's Arab citizens speak up. This isn't all quite as neatly divided a war as some would make it out to be.

- The Whistleblowers dirty dozen. Yes, there are Democrats on that list.

- Supporters of leftist presidential candidate, Lopez Obrador, are staging massive protests in Mexico to contest the results of the recent election. Democracy. It seems to be happening everywhere but America.

- Torture in Algeria. Sound familiar?

- This is what massive government incompetence looks like. Yet, when Americans need to be evacuated out of Lebanon, the US government makes sure every individual will get a bill for the trip. Maybe some of the evacuees should borrow some cash from all of those ranchers who knowingly took money that they didn't deserve.
