Voices From Guantanamo

Following the release of some 5,000 documents Friday night (otherwise known as a "Friday nite news dump") by the Department of Defense that had been requested by the Associated Press through the Freedom of Information Act, the New York Times has begun to cover some of the stories of the 760 prisoners being held at Gitmo.

You can read the entire article, Voices Baffled, Brash and Irate in Guantanamo, here.

(Although I usually prefer to excerpt pieces like this in order to provide further commentary, I'm restricted from doing so by my poor health right now, unfortunately.)

I will say this, however: these detaineess must never be forgotten; they must see true justice; they must not be held indefinitely and they must be afforded basic human, civil and legal rights. The Bush adminitration must be held accountable for this gulag they've created and must be forced to come clean on each and every case. These are not just "detainees". These are people who were rounded up and left to rot in the darkness. Either charge them or send them home, Bush. This has got to stop.
