Today's Globe and Mail brings us an absolutely stunning revelation about the way new Conservative Prime Minister, Stephen Harper, plans to keep his cabinet ministers in line:
OTTAWA - Prime Minister Stephen Harper has imposed central control over all information and comments to the public issued by government officials and even cabinet ministers, directing them to have everything cleared by the Prime Minister's Office, according to an internal e-mail and government sources.
...
Government officials and Conservatives confirmed the instructions, including orders that the PMO clear all public communications - including minor comments and letters to local newspapers.
"PMO will have final approval for all communications products - even Notes to Editors or Letters to the Editor," the e-mail states.
This is democracy? A state in which our elected representatives are so muzzled that everything they utter in public has to be approved by the Prime Minister's office?
After years of railing against the Liberal PMO for having too much power and control, Harper has actually gone far beyond what any Liberal Prime Minister has ever done in order to control their cabinet ministers. This is nothing but blatant totalitarianism.
Our MPs are supposed to represent us - not their Dear Leader and not their Dear Party. Harper has now stripped away the rights of all citizens whose MPs are members of the Conservative party. I am one of those citizens, unfortunately, and I will not stand for this!
We on the left knew that the Conservatives did indeed have that "hidden agenda" that we all spoke of during the election and the Conservatives are so bloody incompetent that they can't even keep that agenda secret. What we feared is already in full bloom and it cannot be allowed propagate.
I want my country back.
Contact your member of Parliament immediately and demand that they oppose this stifling of publicly expressed opinions. I've already contacted mine. Frankly, if you don't do anything you are cosigning this bullshit and deserve this government. Don't say you weren't warned.
