NSA Spying Program? What NSA Spying Program?

After a day in which US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales appeared before the House Judiciary Committee hearing about the NSA spying program, giving legal justifications for the president being able to wiretap Americans without a warrant while Bush was simultaneously responding to an irate questioner in North Carolina about the very same program - saying he would not apologize for his actions during a time of war - (video), the Justice Department released this statement:

A department spokeswoman, Tasia Scolinos, said, "The attorney general's comments today should not be interpreted to suggest the existence or nonexistence of a domestic program or whether any such program would be lawful under the existing legal analysis."
