In today's Calgary Herald, she accuses Klein detractors of "dirty politics" and believes there was a conspiracy to bring down her husband.
In an e-mail exchange with the Calgary Herald, Colleen Klein wrote:
Without naming names, Colleen said she hopes those people who she suggested have been orchestrating a palace coup get a taste of their own medicine, as the campaign to replace the premier rages on.
"Hopefully what goes around comes around and these people never see the inside of the premier's office. We need someone who has honesty and integrity to replace my guy," she said.
A palace coup? Klein announced his retirement date and those interested in running simply stated their intentions. That's not a coup. That's what happens every single day in politics. And the idea that somehow 45% of the thousands of Conservative party members were affected by some sort of secret conspiracy to get rid of Ralph is just beyond belief. Ralph signed his own death warrant when he chose to give possible successors a lengthy 18 month period to campaign - a move that was destined to shake up the party and the government. It was a bad decision and the Conservatives recognized it as such.
As for assigning words like "honesty and integrity" to the premier, it's obvious that Colleen just isn't capable of objectivity when it comes to evaluating her "guy". Hopefully, his replacement will actually have those qualities which have been sorely lacking since Ralph was elected.
Colleen Klein will win no favours from those in her party by attacking them for expressing their feelings about the job Ralph Klein has been doing. If there's going to be any backfire in this situation, it will hit Ralph. She should have considered that before she let her thoughts be known.
Ralph Klein will be holding a press conference today at 1:30pm ET.
