They're accountable!
They're responsible!
They're liars!
Parts of [Environment minister] Ms. Ambrose's testimony were contradicted Tuesday when the Conservative government admitted the previous Liberal regime did not spend any money purchasing international carbon credits. Ms. Ambrose had said the Liberals spent "at least $100-million" buying the credits.
Ms. Ambrose cited a long list of specific foreign projects, but her office now says that list was for the Canada Climate Change Development Fund, a separate program.
The admission came only after media asked to see the list that Ms. Ambrose had cited.
While buying foreign credits was part of the Liberal plan to meet Canada's commitment under the Kyoto protocol, officials now say not a cent was spent purchasing the credits, which would have counted against the amount of carbon emissions Canada needed to reduce to meet Kyoto targets.
