The So-Called Clean Air Act is Made Public

Want clean air? Well, you're just going to have to wait a few more decades.

Ever since the tories came into power, Canadians have been told over and over to wait for their Made in Canada environmental plan because we'd be surprised when it came out. The only surprise that came with its release today is the fact that they actually thought we'd be surprised with their Made in Corporate Canada non-solutions to global warming and serious pollution problems that should have been dealt with a long time ago.

The corporations 'need time to adjust' and must be consulted with for many more years, according to this Conservative government, before a real plan can be agreed upon. 'Kyoto' is a dirty word to these right-wingers, who much prefer Bush-speak like 'intensity-based targets' which are an absolute slap in the face to anyone concerned with actually doing something about greenhouse gas emissions. It's typical Conservative philosophy: things are going to have to get much worse before they get better. In this case, that means more people with health problems will have to continue suffering while the tories have their nice business lunches with their corporate lobbyist buddies in the oil and auto industries while making absolutely ridiculous moves like this:

In the coming year, the government will introduce regulations to reduce emissions from motorcycles, outboard engines, all-terrain vehicles and off-road diesel engines. Officials were unable to say what proportion of Canada's emissions come from those sources, or by how much they will be reduced.

Maybe they should go after those horrendously polluting, gas guzzling weed-eaters too. Everybody knows just how much they're to blame for the arctic ice melting.

What a farce.
