Following the news that he had a car accident in the early hours of Thursday morning which congressman Patrick Kennedy (D-RI) blamed on disorientation due to Ambien and another drug for nausea, Kennedy has announced that he will enter rehab at the Mayo Clinic. Yet another victim of the 'Kennedy Curse'?
During his press conference, Kennedy stated that he couldn't remember getting out of bed, driving or being cited for the accident he was involved in. He spoke about his battles with chronic depression and addiction and admitted that he had attended the Mayo Clinic for rehabilitation over the Christmas holidays. The incident on Thursday prompted him to seek further treatment.
As a recovering addict of 19 years and a former addictions counselor who has also had to deal with chronic depression, I wish him well.
