Ray McGovern on His Clash With Rumsfeld

Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern, who challenged Donald Rumsfeld in Atlanta last week about his lies about the Iraq war, tells his story at antiwar.com, where he is a frequent contributor.

McGovern explains that he was in Atlanta that week, not specifically to 'stalk' Rumsfeld, as some have accused him of doing. He had been invited by the ACLU to receive their National Civil Liberties Award. He also had speaking engagements that week with two antiwar groups. He explains that he heard Rumsfeld would be speaking in the city and used his CIA contacts to obtain a ticket. All very simple and innocent and definitely not part of some covert plot to shame Rumsfeld in public.

McGovern goes on to detail the press reaction and the fact that he was more than able to prove his sources for the quotes he threw back at Rumsfeld. They were Rummy's words. There was absolutely no disputing that - you'd think. It took a while for the mainstream press to actually catch up. Even we bloggers used Google much more quickly than CNN did.

McGovern says of the Rumsfeld fans at the event:

Scary. No open minds there. A graphic reminder for those wishing to spread some truth around that we have our work cut out for us. We have to find imaginative ways to use truth as a lever to pry open closed minds.

No doubt.
