Just one minute before Bush was set to speak to the nation about immigration issues and while CNN's analyst Jeff Greenberg was speaking, suddenly Bush appeared on the screen while he was rehearsing his lines. The screen quickly went back to Greenberg and Blitzer said the pool cameras had prematurely released the feed.
Yet another Kodak Moment™ brought to you by the Bush administration.
(Is that a Mickey Mouse™ watch he's wearing?)
Actual speech blooper: "But when we catch illegal immigrants from other country..."
UPDATE: The speech was really much ado about nothing since the details had already been leaked to the press beforehand. Of note was that when Bush spoke about holding companies responsible for hiring undocumented workers, the administration favours creating an ID card based on biometrics, but he said absolutely nothing about enforcing existing laws that would sanction such employers before such a program would be in effect.
He repeatedly tried to assure his base that his plan is not about granting amnesty and he provided nothing to back that up because his opponents on that issue have already drawn their line in the sand - preferring mass incarcerations in camps and/or mass deportations.
Frankly, this speech did not address what his base really wanted to hear that might cause a bump in the polls. If there actually is one, it will soon be diminished once again when the battle between the house and senate continues over immigration issues during the next few weeks. Bush will obviously not sign onto the House bill, which many of the anti-immigration extremists would like, and prefers the compromises offered by the senate. His teevee speech will not affect that fight.
WaPo has the speech transcript.
