This is what he said in a press conference in reaction to Zarqawi's death:
"Arguably over the last several years, no single person on this planet has had the blood of more innocent men, women and children on his hands than Zarqawi," said Rumsfeld.
Meanwhile, Michael Berg, the father of Nicholas Berg, who was reportedly beheaded by Zarqawi, believes that Bush actually has the most blood of the innocents on his hands in recent times:
Under Saddam Hussein, about 30,000 deaths a year. Under George Bush, about 60,000 deaths a year. I don't get it. Why is it better to have George Bush the king of Iraq rather than Saddam Hussein?
(hat tip Man Eegee)
Rumsfeld also predicted that Zarqawi's death will 'slow down' the insurgency and he showed, once again, how utterly clueless he is about reality:
At the same time, he discounted as "utter nonsense" suggestions that Zarqawi's death will trigger a spike in violence.
"You can have an upswing in violence that has nothing to do with his death," said Rumsfeld, speaking to reporters on the plane en route back to Washington from a NATO meeting in Brussels. "These things tend to get planned well in advance."
How much planning does it take to gun people down and behead them?
One can only imagine what it's like to live in Rumsfeld's land of denial.
