Anyone concerned about the extreme political divisions in the United States needs to watch Friday nite's episode of 20/20 with George Stephanopoulos: A Country Divided: Examining the State of our Union. (Free summarized webcast - just ignore the commercial at the beginning.)
It's an insightful look into how extreme views are formed and how they are encouraged in society via the media and polarized communities. Yes, they even look at the blogosphere's role. And I have to agree that large left-wing community blogs like Daily Kos (along with several well-known right-wing blogs as well) contribute to the problem in many ways by creating a sometimes deafening echo chamber that stifles dissenting opinions.
It will make you wonder what's really necessary to bridge the gap that is destroying political discourse in an open society and perhaps it may influence how you view your role in the matter too - as it did for me.
