Alert: Unconfirmed Report of Attack on Canadian Ship

There are unconfirmed reports that a Canadian ship leaving Lebanon was attacked.

MacKay says he has no way to verify the reports independently because the ship is still in the water between Beirut and Cyprus.

The CBC has more:

Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister Peter MacKay said Friday he has asked the Israeli Foreign Ministry to investigate an unconfirmed report that a ship carrying Canadians from Lebanon was attacked, as evacuees started arriving by the planeload in Montreal and Ottawa.

Update: Reportedly, the cause for alarm was an exploding fire extinguisher.

But a Canadian official said no one was injured when a fire extinguisher exploded aboard the Blue Dawn after it left Beirut.

Glad that's over and everybody's safe!

More to come...
