Updated throughout the day.
- Olmert complains that international media aren't showing the "murderous viciousness" of Hezbollah. Rest assured, Olmert, that the media are definitely showing the "murderous viciousness" of both sides. That's exactly what war is, no matter where or why it's happening.
- There have been very quite rumblings in the past week that Israel may be using white phosporus in its missiles striking Lebanon. The Lebanese president made that charge public recently. The first I have seen of this possibility on CNN was a report by Karl Penhaul on Sunday who reported from a Lebanese hospital, showing the burns received by two children (one 8 months old) and interviewing a doctor who is familiar with the stench that comes from such weapons. The online version of that report can be found here. Note that the text does not include what was said in the video about white phosporus but the link they provide to Penhaul's video does. It is incredibly difficult to watch the children in such anguish, but the world needs to witness exactly what's going on there.
This definitely deserves more investigation - especially by the UN, human rights groups and the mainstream press. (Related: the US used white phosporus in its attack against Fallujah in Iraq.)
- Rice made a surprise visit to Lebanon on Monday. It doesn't seem that meeting accomplished much of anything besides PR value.
- Canada's PM Stephen Harper is practicing 'moral clarity' - a man who said Israel's response has been 'measured and justified'? Bullshit. He's practicing Bush-style foreign policy.
more to come...
