Birthday Wishes for the Dalai Lama

The Dalai Lama turned 71 on Thursday. Concerned that he may be ill after it was reported that he has taken time off to rest, it was comforting to read this Times of India interview with His Holiness which asserts:

Contrary to rumour mills that the Dalai Lama is ailing, this reporter found the spiritual leader hale and hearty, strong and robust and with a firm grip. He is swift, full of life, and laughs his heart out. He is undoubtedly awe-inspiring, yet most humble. Most importantly he has a great sense of humour.

It's that sense of humour and joyfulness that attracts so many people of all faiths and beliefs to this great man. His astounding capacity for humilty and compassion reminds all of us that we too can attain such an enlightened state, even in the midst of great turmoil.

Happy Birthday, sir.
