New Charges Against 4 US Soldiers

Via the Washington Post:

BAGHDAD, July 9 -- The U.S. military Sunday announced charges against four soldiers for the alleged rape and murder of a young girl and the killing of three members of her family in the southern town of Mahmudiyah.

A fifth soldier, not directly involved in the March 12 attack -- which was originally blamed on Sunni Arab insurgents -- was charged with dereliction of duty for failing to report it, a written statement said.

Reuters is now reporting that the age of the young girl who was raped and murdered was 14.

The mayor of Mahmoudiya confirmed that birth date to CNN.

However, a Justice Department affidavit in the case against Green says investigators estimated victim's age at about 25, while the U.S. military said she was 20.

They also allegedly killed her female relative who was only 5 years old.

Children.

And to imagine that this alleged crime was not just the work of one soldier, but that five were involved.

Words fail me and they certainly don't do justice to that family and those who knew them.
