Republicans: The Tree Huggers

What is it with Republicans and trees?

George Allen's concession speech:
'My friends, sometimes wins, political or otherwise, can blow the leaves off branches and even break limbs. But a deep-rooted tree will stand. Stay standing. It will regrow in the next season.'

Scooter Libby's odd letter to NYT reporter Judith Miller:
'Out West, where you vacation, the aspens will already be turning. They turn in clusters, because their roots connect them.'

Ronald Reagan on pollution:
'Trees cause more pollution than automobiles do.'

George W Bush on Iraqi democracy:
'It is true that the seeds of freedom have only recently been planted in Iraq -- but democracy, when it grows, is not a fragile flower; it is a healthy, sturdy tree.'

George W Bush, 2004 debates:
'Got wood?'

They also apparently believe that money grows on trees...

Republicans: tree huggers. Who knew?
