Gates Has No Idea How the Baghdad Briefing Came About

Stunning.

During the Pentagon press briefing on Thursday, Robert Gates had this to say about last Sunday's display of so-called evidence against Iran given to reporters by anonymous officials in Baghdad last Sunday:

I don't know the circumstances for that briefing or how they came about.
...
Why it was anonymous, why it wasn't allowed to be taped, I don't know why.

General Peter Pace also said earlier this week that he hadn't known about that briefing. Who set it up then and why didn't the people who are supposedly in charge of the war know about it?

Bizarre (which is exactly what I called it when I first wrote about it).
