Weren't they warned of the possible threats?
Harper has been aware of threats against him for some time. The RCMP had already beefed up his motorcade with reinforced SUVs several weeks ago.
But several MPs reacted with shock upon hearing of the allegations for the first time Tuesday.
A wide-eyed Natural Resources Minister Gary Lunn couldn't offer a single word as he walked slowly past a group of reporters upon hearing the news.
Many refused to comment on the news. Liberal MP Belinda Stronach said she wanted to get the news reports confirmed before reacting.
Parliamentary officials were to meet Wednesday with the police forces who oversee the House of Commons and the Senate, as well as representatives from the RCMP and the Ottawa police.
Didn't the RCMP or CSIS have a duty to inform MPs about what might happen? Hopefully, some MPs will now question the actions of the security services if, in fact, they failed to notify them they were possible targets of terrorism.
