Flowers and Candy: The Sequel

Mr Fake Iranian Badges for Jews story author Amir Taheri is back. This time, he's quite gleeful about the troop escalation in Iraq:

Other Baghdadis say the population of those areas will greet the American troops with sweets and flowers.

Where have we heard that before?

Taheri then foists this little gem of wisdom from the safety of his bunker of illusions:

Jihadists have fought not because they hope to win on the battlefield, but to strengthen the antiwar lobbies in the United States and Britain.

Yeah. Forget all that extremist Islamist anti-American stuff. They just like us antiwar types so much that they're willing to blow themselves up to help us out.

The new Bush plan has raised Iraqi morale to levels not known for a year.

It certainly has had that effect on members of al-Sadr's militia:

BAGHDAD (AFP) - A senior ally of radical Iraqi cleric Moqtada al-Sadr warned that thousands of the planned 21,500 extra US troops en route for the war-torn nation would "go home in coffins."
[...]
"The American people have to prevent their sons from coming to Iraq or they may return in coffins," threatened Sheikh Abdel Razzaq al-Nadawi, a senior official in Sadr's movement, slamming the planned US troop increase.

Ever the optimist, Taheri then asserts:

Despite their almost unanimous welcome of the new plan, however, some Iraqis do express a number of concerns.

The first is that Bush might not achieve sufficient unity, both within his own administration and in the broader American political arena, to drive home the message that the jihadists will be hunted down and destroyed.

To address that concern, the president must become "explainer-in-chief," briefing the American people on what is at stake, and showing that the victory that the United States has won in Iraq, by destroying one of the most vicious anti-American regimes on earth, is worth fighting to preserve.

Been there, done that, had an election, turfed out the Republicans. There is no more explaining to be done, Taheri. Everybody and their dog knows what a complete clusterf*ck this war has been. You say "victory". We say "nightmare".
