Israel Nabs Palestinian Parliamentary Speaker

How does Israel get to justify this?

Israeli forces have detained the Speaker of the Palestinian parliament at his home in the West Bank, Palestinian officials say.

Aziz Dweik, also a key member of Hamas, which controls the government, was held after 20 Israeli vehicles surrounded his home in Ramallah, they say.

Whether Israel likes it or not, Hamas members were democratically elected by the people of Palestine. Just a month ago, Israel also detained the deputy speaker, an Independent member who they have now finally released. The dozens of other Hamas members and officials rounded up by Israel are still in custody. And, in case you're wondering, this is how Israel treats its detainees.

So, what exactly is Israel's plan here? To kidnap every member of the government to force its collapse? I hope the Lebanese government is paying attention. They might be next.

So much for democracy.
