4 Canadian Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan

On the same day that Canada is burying Cpl. Francisco Gomez of Edmonton, 44, and Cpl. Jason Warren, 29, who died in Afghanistan on July 22 we have now been told that 4 more soldiers have died and 10 were wounded near Kandahar in two seperate Taliban attacks.

This was PM Harper's reaction (who, by the way, is at a Tory caucus meeting which includes some golfing and PR training and did not attend today's funerals for the fallen):

Prime Minister Stephen Harper said while the loss of soldier's lives in Afghanistan was tragic, the deaths would not affect Canada's operations there.

"The government and Canadians stand behind this mission," Harper told a caucus meeting in Cornwall, Ont.

"This government will honour their sacrifice. We are proud of the work they are doing."

The number of Canadian casualties in the Afghanistan war now stands at 23 and public support for the mission continues to slide.

Condolences to all affected by these deaths. It's another sad day for all Canadians.
