One Reporter's Experience at Tory Training Camp

The TO Star's Rosie Dimanno has an entertaining story about what happened when she tried to infilitrate report on the "Tory training camp" (doesn't that sound like fun? Jesus camp, anyone?) on Friday.

Tribe Tory threatened to arrest me yesterday.

Leave! Leave! Leave!

Delighted, I waited and waited but the cops never showed up – probably too busy with that law-and-order agenda beloved by the Conservatives to bother forcibly removing a reporter from the Toronto Congress Centre. Not even a Mountie came to the party's rescue, though the RCMP aren't getting along so great with their political masters now, what with brass heads rolling and all.

Some 1,500 party acolytes are this weekend attending campaign school out by the airport, an A-to-Z tutorial on all things electoral and very hush-hush, attendance mandatory for Conservative MPs, but otherwise open only to those on a need-to-know basis as the strategists and spear-carriers prepare for a national election that might soon be called. Media scruffs are not welcome – will, in fact, be jack-booted from the premises.

This from the Government of Canada – the same government that claims to be importing democratic values to Afghanistan, where no official has ever kicked me out of any venue, and they've got guns.

Read the whole piece. It's worth it.
