Cold Cold Open Thread

It's cold and I have a cold. Oh my aching head.

Remember Rob Anders, the only member of parliament who voted against making Nelson Mandela an honourary Canadian citizen because he said he was a former communist and a terrorist? Well, he got some bad news today. Serves him right. Karma's a bitch.

And...

Election 'within days:' Memo:

OTTAWA – The Conservative party has warned its members that a federal election campaign could start within days.

The information is contained in an internal fundraising letter that makes an "urgent" appeal for donations.

Despite Prime Minister Stephen Harper's assurances that he does not want an election, his party heavyweights are warning supporters that anything can happen after the federal budget gets tabled Monday.

"We need to be ready to campaign within the next week," said the note, which was sent to members Thursday.

"Without your help, we may need to cut back on major parts of our campaign plan. That's why I'm making an urgent appeal today to our most loyal supporters."

The note from Irving Gerstein, chair of the Conservative Fund Canada, was obtained by The Canadian Press after it was erroneously sent to a former Conservative who left the party but still receives its correspondence.

Sounds like Garth Turner to me...

I say go for it. The tories sure won't get a majority any time soon, despite the big spending spree Harper's been on lately.

Got any news of interest to add? Fire away in the comments. I'm going to soak my head - literally.
