US Senate Debate on the Iraq War

It's that time of year again - reruns on the teevee, rain pouring down, procrastinating about mowing the lawn, too hot to move...

So, if you're really stuck for something to do, the US senate is debating the Iraq war and C-SPAN is carrying it live online throughout this evening and on into tomorrow.

I know what you're thinking: 'catnip! How can you be so blase about the war?'

Well I'm not, of course. It's just that these debates are so damn predictable:

Republicans: 'You just want to cut and run!"
Democrats: 'Yeah - 'stay the course' - now there's a plan.'

And so they go on, hour after hour, playing political football with the lives of people they'll never meet and many they just really don't care about.

But if you like to watch politicians pontificate - and some of them do it quite well, actually (Feingold for President!) - tune into C-SPAN.

And let me take this oppportunity to pontificate a bit: War is not a partisan issue. It's a human issue.
